A daybed is a versatile alternative to a futon – it resembles a sofa much more than a bed. The frame of a daybed consists of three parts, including two sides and one back section. Commonly manufactured from wood or metal, a daybed does not fold out to transform into a bed, unlike a futon. Instead, daybeds traditionally use a proper twin size mattress, which makes them extremely comfortable for sleeping as well as lounging around on.
Some daybeds can be turned into a king sized bed with a metal pop-up trundle, which fits neatly underneath the daybed. The trundle can then be pulled out from underneath the daybed if guests need to use it. Normally, the trundle is on wheels to make it easier to access. A metal pop-up trundle can be adjusted to fit at the same level as the main portion of the daybed. Using a daybed linkspring, the trundle can be easily connected to the main daybed to make a king size bed. Or, the trundle can be left separate to create two twin size beds.

You can also buy a daybed with a drawer trundle, which doesn’t elevate or extend all the way out. Drawer trundles are typically made to be used with a twin sized mattress or they can be used for storage if you don’t add a mattress. They don’t extend completely unless you remove the drawer. Drawer trundles, which are generally made of wood, are an attractive addition to a child’s room, as they’re perfect for sleepovers.
Considered to be more comfortable for sleeping than a futon, daybeds take up the same amount of room as a twin size bed and are a more permanent fixture to your room. Utilized most often by people who want to convert a den or office into a spare guest bedroom, or by those who live in apartments, a daybed is not intrusive and can also be used as a couch.

To get started, you must measure your daybed on all three sides and cut the fabric based on the measurements, adding in the height of the mattress. Three separate panels are needed, and then sewn together to make a complete cover. You’ll need to cover the back cushions too in matching or contrasting fabric.
When selecting a daybed cover for your room, whether it be a bedroom, living room or an office, make sure the style of the cover matches the décor of the room so that it blends in well to its surroundings. You should also match the cover to the taste and personality of the occupant of the room if you are choosing one for a bedroom. For example, a denim daybed cover is great for teens whereas as white and pink chenille cover would be better for young girl. A good daybed cover, like the daybed itself, can be as functional as it is attractive, turning your office, den, or living room into a guest bedroom as needed.
